Clear Computer Cases
If you are going to just replace the existing case on your computer, sizing is
pretty easy. In fact, clear computer cases are ideal for existing
equipment as well as new. I’d remove the panels to get familiar with how your machine is configured mechanically
and get a feel for the footprint and profile of the naked machine. Make sure there aren’t any areas that jut out
beyond a certain point that your new case might interfere with.
Consider also any modifications you want to make, like new or additional fans, hard
drives, media drives, etc. These might alter the profile so make sure the new case will accommodate the computer
after all the new parts are installed. You don't want to underestimate the area of the final product and end up
with a case you can't use.
If you intend to build your own custom
computer from scratch, you can shop for your case and your components at the same time.
Some cases will allow for features that you might want to include, like multiple fans, extra USB ports, lights,
etc. It is better to consider these things up front so that you can really build the machine exactly the way you
want it.
Make sure it has enough room to mount the lights that you might want to use. Even if
you aren't going to put them in right away, you might want to install lighting later down the road, so it's a good
idea to leave enough room in case you change your mind.
If a totally clear case is what you are after, make sure the description says that.
Some of them are tinted and it can be a little difficult to notice that in the headlines.
Also, tinting can have an effect over the lighting results you get if you in fact
plan to use lights. Check the number of bays and USB, audio slots to confirm that the case will stack up against
the firepower you want to jam inside.
I got one of those really cool heavy duty switches last month with the military
style flip up switch covers in red. It looks like something you would see in a fighter plane cockpit, and goes
great with my red lighting behind it. I also got a nice chrome fan grill. These accessories make the machine look
really cool in a post industrial geeky sort of way.
You really are only limited by your imagination when you use clear computer cases to
customize your machines. Your finished product can be a totally unique and original statement that will highlight
any room and enhance your gaming or computing experience. You’ll end up with a valuable and one of a kind work of
art!
Here’s an idea. When you get your case and your accents and get it all put together,
send me a pic of your machine when you get it built. Maybe we can start posting the best ones on this site so that
everyone else can see what you made. That might be a great way for others to get ideas and inspiration for their
projects.
